Harold and Maude
The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
All Songs by Cat Stevens
“What was interesting was, I’d done that project, I’d kind of put it behind me. But then, over the years it’s just taken on so much importance. It’s a milestone, and a part of people’s memories, which they love… and I love it too. Other things disappear or assume smaller proportions. Harold and Maude just gets better and means more and more. It’s the rarest thing. A film that gets better with age.”
-Yusuf

I just got my copy of this in the mail today. I was over the moon to see that it came with even more goodies than what I was expecting…another 7-inch and the amazing film cells! I was wondering, how limited is this version? How lucky am I??!!
January 23rd, 2008 at 4:12 pm
I believe the number is limited to 2500. I’m glad you liked it!
January 24th, 2008 at 12:52 am
thanks greg…i think the actual pressing is limited to 2500, but most people i have seen/spoken to who have the record have made no mention of the additional things which i got in it…and i got a certificate inside it saying i was a ‘lucky winner’, so was wondering how limited this version was too!
January 24th, 2008 at 8:21 am
Yeah. I think all copies receives those extra goodies! Very cool indeed…
February 5th, 2008 at 2:09 pm
I also received the film and the bonus 7″! A friend of mine, she didn’t….It would be nice to find out if this was sourced from tape or digital files…it does sound very good indeed. The mastering is very nice on the LP…I love this package!
Can anybody help me with what the sources were?
February 6th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
From Universal’s masters - they had recently remastered Cat Steven’s catalog and asked if we’d be okay using those latest masters.
thanks

I bought one of 10 copies that my record store got… needless to say all copies were bought by employees save maybe 3. Anyway my copy came with a slipmat, no one else that bought one had anything extra in it… Because I am such a nerd and want to know how cool the stuff is that I have, I wonder if there is any way of knowing how many came with the slipmat???

My copy includes a Cat Stevens poster that is signed by someone named Alex (can’t make out the last name), and it also includes a Japanese poster. Can you tell me anything else about them? Is this an original one-sheet?
Damn, this is probably my favorite vinyl release ever. Much thanks to everyone who was involved in making it happen.

Darren: Here’s your answer straight from Andy from Vinyl Films:
The Cat Stevens poster was drawn by a friend of ours named Alex HillKurtz, and it’s his “signature” on that one, and the second poster is a reproduction of the Japanese Program for Harold & Maude that was sold in the theatres in Japan when the film was re-released
in 1979. Hope that helps!

Thanks, Greg. I spent two hours last night listening to the album and reading the booklet. For a couple years now, I’ve been playing with the idea of writing a critical biography of Hal Ashby, and Cameron’s interviews brought out some stories I’d never heard before.
Thanks again.

Just picked this up, what a great job you did in re-releasing it. The quality is just impeccable. Were some of the pressings a sunburst vinyl? Mine’s plain, but I’ve seen photos of some… so are there more treats out there?
It sounds great, too. Thanks for releasing one of the holy grails of soundtracks.

My copy came in the mail today! I must say that I paid a little more for this record than I normally do for others, but it was worth it. Even though none of the extra goodies were found in the record I am extremely happy about what came in the package.
…I can now say like many others I have become a vinyl junkie. Even though I have been listening to my vinyl albums for a long time, I like so many others have now become a collector in college.
-Hopefully it won’t get too expensive.

I bought two copies for myself — one to open and play and one to save unopened. Now, after reading that there are diffent bonus items in different packages, I am tempted to open the other. I also bought two to give as gifts and I am tempted to open those. I am just thinking about how I will react if I give it as a gift and the person I give it to gets the Cat Stevens autograph. I guess I need to remember what Maude told Harold she acts as a reminder of: “Not to get too attached to material things.”

Also, did everyone get the card with a reproduction of handwritten lyrics of “If You Want to Sing Out, Sing Out” and “Don’t be Shy”? I have that and haven’t heard anyone mention it. It came in the sleeve of the 7″. I assume it’s a reproduction of Cat’s original writing of them.

Hi there,
I was lucky enough (though a bit broke) to get one of the promotional releases of the Harold & Maude Soundtrack picture discs. Do you know how many of these were made? I paid over $80 with shipping and tax and that was the retail price from auralexploits, so i’m guessing they are rare.
Cheers & thank you for helping to create an amazing vinyl product of one of the best soundtracks of all time!

Is there any chance that there is going to be an additional pressing? I am having a very hard time getting my hands on one of these supersweet records.
Thanks,

Thanks!

David:
Regarding the lyrics:
Everyone DID get the card inside the 7″ jacket of Cat Stevens’
handwritten lyrics to both “Don’t Be Shy” and “If You Want To Sing
Out, Sing Out” - it came with every pressing of the record, and we
found those lyrics in the Hal Ashby collection at the Academy of
Motion Picture Arts & Sciences Library… Thanks!

Hi,
Thanks so much for doing this project, and doing it right. You’ve made 2500+ people really happy.
I got one of the pink/red vinyl copies. The book came in a “bag” marked “Publicity Kit - 25 stills”. Was this simply a replica of the kit everyone got or were there supposed to be 25 stills in it? There weren’t any in mine.
In any case, I’ve begun the process of wearing out my vinyl already…

After watching this movie for the first time in ‘01(I was born in ‘78, so it took me a while to stumble upon this film) I scoured the internet for a soundtrack…obviously to no avail. I went about creating my own custom soundtrack, and with the exception of the acoustic & alternate versions, I am glad to read I have all the songs. I was very, very happy with my 9 track disc…until now. I cannot believe this is on vinyl, and after reading all of your comments, I hope this album is added to my collection some day. I hope you all enjoy your soundtrack as much as I have enjoyed mine. Cheers
May 3rd, 2008 at 9:05 am
Indeed the bag is a replica of Paramount’s Publicity Kit
from 1971, of which there is a picture in the gatefold of the record, so Jeff is not missing 25 stills. Thanks again!
